Women in Trades come to Capitol, advocate for issues facing the workforce
Women are playing an increasingly vital role in the skilled trades, bringing talent, determination, and fresh perspectives to industries that quite literally build our communities. From carpentry and electrical work to plumbing, ironworking, and operating engineers, women in the trades are breaking barriers and proving that skill, precision, and work ethic know no gender. In Livingston and McLean Counties, their contributions are visible on job sites large and small—strengthening the workforce, raising standards, and inspiring the next generation to consider careers that offer stability, strong wages, and a sense of pride in a job well done.
The Livingston & McLean County Building Trades Council is committed to supporting and growing opportunities for women in union trades through mentorship, training, and access to rewarding career pathways. By fostering an inclusive environment and partnering with apprenticeship programs, the Council helps ensure women have the tools and support they need to succeed and lead. As more women enter the trades, they are not only building careers for themselves—they are helping build a stronger, more diverse workforce that benefits our entire community.
